Friday, September 4 at 7pm American Bullet by Rachel Finley Engage@GableStage will premiere its 5th completed Artist Grant project on September 4th at 7pm with American Bullet by Rachel Finley. On February 14, 2017, Rachel Finley lived a reality that every parent in modern America fears, "There is an active shooter in your son's school." American Bullet is a 10-minute segment of Rachel Finley's yet to be produced one woman show America Burning. In this multi-media performance, Rachel combines music, film, spoken word poetry, acting, symbolic movement and innovative costuming to create a visceral exploration of America's obsession with violence, munitions and the price of our "freedom." Thursday, September 10 at 6pm Democracy in Florida: A Work in Progress Attend a free online Florida Humanities event by registering in advance. When American revolutionaries waged a war for independence, they took a leap of faith that sent ripple effects across generations. They embraced a radical idea of establishing a government that entrusted the power of the nation not in a monarchy, but in its citizens. That great leap sparked questions that continue to impact Floridians: who has the right to vote, what are the freedoms and responsibilities of citizens, and whose voices will be heard? This talk by Dr. Steve Noll is a springboard for discussions about those very questions and how they are reflected in Florida stories spanning over 300 years. https://bit.ly/VoiceVotes-DemocracyInFlorida |
