Sunday, January 17 at 3pm Beethoven Lives Upstairs Teach your kids about the life and works of Ludwig van Beethoven in this world-famous production by Orchestra Miami. A "madman" has moved into the upstairs apartment of Christoph, a young boy who lives in Vienna. Through a series of letters to his Uncle, dramatically underscored with Beethoven's most beautiful excerpts, Christoph slowly comes to understand the genius of the man, the torment of his deafness and the beauty of his music. The music is magically woven into the drama as two actors share their anecdotes and observations based on true incidents from the composer's life. The performance is approximately 50 minutes in length and is recommended for audiences ages six and up. Price: $5 to 15. Call 305-274-2103. https://www.orchestramiami.org/beethoven-lives-upstairs |

Saturday, February 6 at 4pm Seraphic Fire - In Pursuit of Peace Exploring humanity’s continual quest for peace through the music of American composers Steve Reich and Samuel Barber, Seraphic Fire sets the anonymous poems of Irish monks from the 8th to the 13th centuries to music composed in the 20th century. Samuel Barber’s Hermit Songs are a meditation on solitude, isolation, and the simple joys of life. A special rebroadcast of the 2016 performance of Reich’s The Desert Music by Seraphic Fire and New World Symphony, conducted by Patrick Quigley, raises the duality of war and peace and questions the lengths humankind will go to achieve its goals. https://www.seraphicfire.org |
