The Return of JohnMartin's Irish Pub? The Miami Herald reports that Breakwater Hospitality Group (Black Market Miami) owner Erick Passo wil re-open JohnMartin's Irish Pub on Miracle Mile in the Fall season. The location will be updated with a new look and feel, created by Big Time Design Studio. When John Clarke and Martin Lynch opened the doors in 1989, Coral Gables city ordinances forbade anyone from standing or sitting at the bar — you had to be seated and drinks brought to your tables. Over time, these draconian restrictions were lifted thanks to John and Martin's efforts — and a dose of common sense. We'll be looking forward to the day when this iconic space is once again hosting friends who want to meet up on Miracle Mile and share good times. |

Saturday at 9pm; Monday at 2pm Donnie Darko at Gables Cinema Late one night, Donnie (Jake Gyllenhaal) is led out of his home by Frank, a monstrous six-foot rabbit that only he can see. Frank informs his fellow classmates that the world will end in 28 days. The following morning, Donnie discovers a jet engine has crash-landed on the floor of his bedroom. From there, things only get stranger. Richard Kelly’s directorial debut is a daring, original vision, packed with jarring ideas and intelligence. Its mind-bending time travel plot is layered with themes of existentialism and spirituality, staples of Kelly’s work. The baby-faced Gyllenhaal broke through in his role as a troubled and mentally deranged individual, which has become a staple of his acting repertoire as seen in films such as Enemy and Nightcrawler. https://www.gablescinema.com/events/donnie-darko/ |

Streaming April 2 to 6 The Belle of Amherst - Emily Dickinson Palm Beach Dramaworks Producing Artistic Director William Hayes and Actors’ Playhouse Artistic Director David Arisco are pleased to announce a virtual coproduction of The Belle of Amherst, William Luce’s one-woman play based on the life of poet Emily Dickinson from 1830 to 1886, and set in her Amherst, Massachusetts home. The 1976 play makes use of her work, diaries, and letters to recollect her encounters with the significant people in her life -- family, close friends, and acquaintances. It balances the agony of her seclusion with the brief bright moments when she was able to experience some joy. Margery Lowe portrays the enigmatic poet and Hayes directs. Tickets are $30 and all proceeds will benefit PBD and Actors' Playhouse, supplying much-needed revenue at a time when the theatres are earning no income.
