The City Of Miami celebrates the 125th Anniversary on July 31 with a host of special events.

Thursday August 19 is National Aviation Day, observed in the United States on August 19 each year to celebrate the history and development of the aviation. It coincides with the birthday of Orville Wright who, together with his brother Wilbur, made significant contributions to powered flight.

As always, make plans to enjoy the great outdoors in our little city. Walk down Miracle Mile, experience the live theatre and the best movies, browse the book stores, look into the art galleries and meet up with friends at the restaurants. Visit the parks and public spaces to appreciate the bounties of nature.

GabeStage Returns - Announces New Season

We're anticipating a triumphant return for the legacy theatre program at GableStage, beginning with a classic American drama -- Arthur Miller's The Price, a two-act play exploring family dynamics, the price of furniture, and the price of one's own decisions. After the Great Depression, Victor Franz gave up going to college to support his father. His brother did not. After 30 years, they return to sell their parents’ estate. Vicente Hernández - Art as Protest, Protest as Art

Cernuda Arte is honored to present a showcase of protest artworks by Cuban-based painter Vicente Hernández in Vicente Hernández: Art As Protest, Protest As Art. This special selection of twenty paintings comes at a time of historic mass demonstrations on the island. Through this exhibition, Cernuda Arte is giving a platform to a courageous painter who has dedicated his career to criticism of the Cuban government. History and Heritage Bike Ride

The Conformist at Gables Cinema

Miami Theatre Works debuts at Gables Cinema

A new semi-professional summer theatre company is setting up shop in the community and they've announced their premiere performances at Coral Gables Art Cinema. Miami Theatre Works will present [title of show] on the first two weekends of August, an off-beat musical about two guys writing a musical about two guys writing a musical. Consisting of only four actors and a pianist, the show takes a hilarious look at the pleasures and perils of attempting to write a new, original Broadway Musical. It follows the true story of creators and cast members Jeff Bowen and Hunter Bell alongside their female castmates Susan Blackwell and Heidi Blickenstaff as they all navigate the truth and insanity of building a musical from the ground up. Exhibit: Every Being Is An Island by Amalia Caputo

The Deering Estate presents Every Being Is An Island -- documenting the experience of Amalia Caputo, as an Artist in Residence at the Deering Estate. The exhibition is an extensive portrait of the land, collected images, video, and objects unique to the space, that build an archive of memories she has created with her residency.
