Great Gables Events Calendar Newsletter

Greetings ,

Sunday, October 31 is Halloween. Look for special events for the kids around town, and plan for fun, safe activities.

Remember that Daylight Saving Time ends on Sunday, November 7th at 2am so "Fall Back" on the clocks and enjoy more light in the mornings. It's also a time to check the batteries on smoke alarms.

As always, make plans to enjoy the great outdoors in our little city. Walk down Miracle Mile, experience the live theatre and the best movies, browse the book stores, look into the art galleries and meet up with friends at the restaurants. Visit the parks and public spaces to appreciate the bounties of nature.

Enjoy the best of Coral Gables in the coming days.

Memories of Howitzer flow into the creation of four stories: a travelogue of the seediest sections of the city itself; a tale of an imprisoned artist, his muse and his ravenous dealers; a chronicle of love and death at the height of a student revolt; and a suspenseful tale of drugs, kidnapping and fine dining. Director Wes Anderson's latest features a star-studded cast that includes Bill Murray, Benicio Del Toro, Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand, Timothée Chalamet, Léa Seydoux, Owen Wilson, Saoirse Ronan, Christoph Waltz, Edward Norton, and many more. https://www.gablescinema.com/events/the-french-dispatch/

Dracula and Frankenstein Double Feature

Sunday, October 31 at 2pm

Dracula and Frankenstein Double Feature

This Halloween, travel to the pre-code Hollwood era with a double feature screening of the original Dracula and Frankenstein for their 90th anniversaries. Both are presented in the meticulously produced 2012 restorations by Universal Studios. Dracula - Bela Lugosi wants to suck your blood in Tod Browning's monster classic. Featuring dynamic visuals by German cinematographer Karl Freund and a towering performance by Lugosi, this is the standard by which all portrayals of the suave yet deadly vampire count are measured. Frankenstein - James Whale's Frankenstein is alive with terror and a supremely humane performance by screen legend Boris Karloff -- all the more magnificent for it being entirely wordless. Few movie monsters have been as ghoulish yet pitiable as Frankenstein's monster and Whale's classic exemplifies those qualities. https://www.gablescinema.com/events/dracula-frankenstein/

Seraphic Fire - Claude Debussy’s Trois Chansons

New Release

Seraphic Fire - Claude Debussy’s Trois Chansons

Claude Debussy’s Trois Chansons, set to a text by the 15th century French poet Charles d’Orléans, are an unmistakable nod to the renaissance by a thoroughly modern composer. Published in 1908 during the mature part of Debussy’s career, these three a cappella choral miniatures (the only such pieces in Debussy’s output) are a conscious nod to the historical music revival that had begun in France during the 19th century’s fin de siecle and continued into the 20th century. By using Renaissance modalism combined with jazz-inspired harmonies, Debussy created a seamless connection between French music’s past and present. https://vimeo.com/574620957/b905a58548
