Our Fourth Of July weekend won't be quite the same without the cadre of firework experts performing their magic, along with the usual magnificent gatherings and live music in Coral Gables, but we can still celebrate the anniversary of American Independence on July 4, 1776 with smaller conclaves for barbecue rituals organized with safety in mind.

FYI - The final resolution of independence was approved in a closed session of Congress on July 2nd but it took some time for all participants to sign the document. Historians have long disputed whether members of Congress signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, even though Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and Benjamin Franklin all later wrote that they had signed it on that day.

By remarkable coincidence, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams, the only two signatories of the Declaration of Independence later to serve as presidents of the United States, both died on the same day exactly fifty years later: July 4, 1826.
