Greetings {name},
Sunday, September 26 is Gold Star Mother's Day, a time to display the nation's flag and hold appropriate meetings to publicly express their love, sorrow, and reverence towards Gold Star Mothers and their families.
As always, make plans to enjoy the great outdoors in our little city. Walk down Miracle Mile, experience the live theatre and the best movies, browse the book stores, look into the art galleries and meet up with friends at the restaurants. Visit the parks and public spaces to appreciate the bounties of nature.
Enjoy the best of Coral Gables in the coming days.

Author Kei Miller - Things I Have Withheld
Author Kei Miller discusses his book Things I Have Withheld, with Patricia J. Saunders, University of Miami Associate Professor, Hemispheric Caribbean Studies Faculty Lead at the Coral Gables Museum. In this moving and lyrical collection of essays, the award-winning poet and novelist Kei Miller explores the silence in which so many important things are kept. He examines the experience of discrimination through this silence and what it means to breach it: to risk words, to risk truths. And he considers the histories our bodies inherit -- the crimes that haunt them, and how meaning can shift as we move throughout the world, variously assuming privilege or victimhood. Through letters to James Baldwin, encounters with Liam Neeson, Soca, Carnival, family secrets, love affairs, white women’s tears, questions of aesthetics and more, Miller powerfully and imaginatively recounts everyday acts of racism and prejudice. Please RSVP online. |

Starts Friday
Azor At Gables Cinema
Argentina, the late 1970s. Private banker Yvan (Fabrizio Rongione, Two Days, One Night) arrives from Geneva with his wife Ines (Stéphanie Cléau) to replace a colleague who has mysteriously disappeared in military-ruled Buenos Aires. Moving through the smoke-filled lounges and lush gardens of a society under intense surveillance, he finds himself untangling a sinister web of colonialism, high finance, and a nation's "Dirty War." In his remarkably assured debut, Swiss director Andreas Fontana invites us into this seductive, moneyed world where political violence simmers just under the surface. Co-written by Argentinian filmmaker Mariano Llinás (La Flor), Azor (a highlight from this year’s Berlinale and New Directors/New Films) is a riveting look at international intrigue worthy of John le Carré or Graham Greene. https://www.gablescinema.com/events/azor/ |
