Huda's Salon

Starts Friday

Huda's Salon

In this suspenseful drama inspired by real events, Reem, a young Palestinian mother, arrives at Huda’s salon in Bethlehem for some much-needed self-care, something that is an increasingly rare indulgence in her world. Huda, the salon owner, offers a listening ear and a soft place to land. Reem confides in Huda, sharing her struggles of mothering her baby and navigating life with a jealous and domineering husband. From there, both women's worlds spiral out of control when Huda blackmails the mother to have her work for the secret service of the occupying force. Director Hany Abu-Assad has been nominated twice for an Academy Award, and is the winner of a Golden Globe, Felix Award, Berlin Blue Angel Award, Independent Spirit Award, Amnesty International Film Prize, Golden Calf, and Cannes Film Festival Special Jury Prize. Huda’s Salon was an Official Selection of the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival. https://www.gablescinema.com/events/hudas-salon/

Lady Snowblood at Gables Cinema

Saturday, March 5 at 9pm

Lady Snowblood

Gory revenge is raised to the level of visual poetry in Toshiya Fujita’s stunning Lady Snowblood. A major inspiration for Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill saga, this endlessly inventive film, set in late nineteenth-century Japan, charts the single-minded path of vengeance taken by a young woman, Yuki (Meiko Kaji), whose parents were the unfortunate victims of a gang of brutal criminals. Yuki exhibits samurai traits, but she stands out because she is a woman. Fujita creates a wildly entertaining action film of remarkable craft, an effortless balancing act between beauty and violence. https://www.gablescinema.com/events/lady-snowblood/
