Greetings {name},
Tuesday, March 29 is National Vietnam War Veterans Day, with commemorative events like wreath-laying ceremonies, speeches, and luncheons held to mark the occasion.
Friday, April 1 is April Fool’s Day, dating back to 1582, when it is traditional to play hoaxes or practical jokes on others in a humorous manner. When the Gregorian calendar moved the first day of the year from April 1 to January 1, those that neglected to observe the change were labeled as April Fools. In Scotland, the tradition became a two-day event, starting with "hunting the gowk," in which people were sent on phony errands.
Saturday, April 2 is the beginning of Ramadan, a month of fasting for many Muslims in the United States.
As always, make plans to enjoy the great outdoors in our little city. Walk down Miracle Mile, experience the live theatre and the best movies, browse the book stores, look into the art galleries and meet up with friends at the restaurants. Visit the parks and public spaces to appreciate the bounties of nature.
Enjoy the best of Coral Gables in the coming days.

Parallel Mothers at Gables Cinema
Contemporary melodrama, a bold color palette and a sublime Penélope Cruz in the lead role: these elements combine in Pedro Almodóvar's latest film to form one of the most affecting entries in the celebrated Spanish director's prolific filmography. Cruz stars opposite newcomer Milena Smit, both playing single mothers whose lives intersect in multiple ways after both give birth on the same day in the same hospital. Shocking secrets and painful revelations lie in store for the new mothers and Almodóvar mines the complexity of the situation to explore a deep-rooted trauma in Spain's history, motherhood itself and the inevitability of the truth to out. https://www.gablescinema.com/events/parallel-mothers/ |

Saturday and Sunday
The Heiresses at Gables Cinema
Directed by the legendary Márta Mészáros, who was the first woman to direct a film in Hungary. The brilliance of a young Isabelle Huppert lends quiet intensity to this piercing period elegy. Budapest, 1936: Szilvia, a wealthy heiress to an enormous family fortune, befriends Irén, a young shopgirl of modest means. Unable to give birth, Szilvia offers Irén money in exchange for conceiving a child with her husband on her behalf -- a transaction that blurs the boundaries of the two women’s social roles and leads all involved into an explosive moral, emotional, and romantic minefield. Set amidst the glimmering decadence of a pre-war Europe being consumed by the encroaching rot of Nazism, The Heiresses is a coolly harrowing dissection of class and the cost of motherhood and a haunting vision of lives on a collision course with history. https://www.gablescinema.com/events/the-heiresses/ |
