Friday, April 29, the last Friday in April, is National Arbor Day, a time to recognize the importance of trees, with many environmental awareness groups scheduling special gathers to plant trees.
Sunday, May 1 is Loyalty Day, first observed in 1921. It's a day when Americans celebrate their freedom while remembering their responsibilities to continue the legacy of liberty. On July 18, 1958, the Congress designated May 1 of each year as Loyalty Day to foster loyalty and love of the country. It's also the first day of Military Appreciation Month, as well as Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month and Jewish American Heritage Month.
Tuesday, May 3 is National Teacher Appreciation Day, celebrated on the Tuesday of the first full week in May. It's a day for honoring teachers and recognizing the lasting contributions they make to our lives. Do children still bring their teacher an apple? Consider asking a teacher if they need help with supplies. |

Seraphic Fire presents Handel: Messiah
Handel’s Messiah has been in continuous performance since virtually the day of its premiere. Given its first performance in Dublin, Ireland, Messiah was instantly recognized by audiences and critics alike as a singular piece of music. For the first time since 2004, Seraphic Fire will perform Handel’s complete work. From the excitement of For Unto Us a Child is Born to the magnificence of the Hallelujah Chorus, Messiah is one of the consummate masterpieces of the Baroque canon. Though now most commonly performed at Christmastime, Seraphic Fire will perform the masterwork in April as a tribute to its original composition for the Easter season. https://www.seraphicfire.org/2021-2022-season/handel-messiah/ |

Miami Chamber Music - Inspired by Women
Enjoy an homage to three great women that inspired three great composers, presented by Miami Chamber Music Society at the Otto G. Richter Library. These inspirations varied from romantic to artistic to intellectual. Richard Strauss wrote his Violin Sonata while falling in love with Pauline de Ahna, a soprano, who later became his wife. Maurice Ravel was so taken by the virtuosity of the Hungarian virtuoso Jelly D'Aranyi that he wrote his dazzling Tzigane for her in just a few days. Clara Schumann, a great composer in her own rite, had a profound influence on Joahnnes Brahms. Their deep connection was fundamental and can be felt throughout Brahms' works, including his celebrated Third Violin Sonata. Get details and tickets online. |
