Greetings {name},

Tuesday, June 14 is Flag Day, a time when Americans reflect on the foundations of the nation’s freedom.

Sunday, June 19 is Fathers' Day, a time to celebrate the institution of fatherhood and honor all the dads. Father's Day was officially recognized as a holiday in 1972 by President Nixon.

Sunday, June 19 is Juneteenth, a federal holiday remembering when Union soldiers enforced the Emancipation Proclamation and freed all remaining slaves in Texas.

As always, make plans to enjoy the great outdoors in our little city. Walk down Miracle Mile, experience the live theatre and the best movies, browse the book stores, look into the art galleries and meet up with friends at the restaurants. Visit the parks and public spaces to appreciate the bounties of nature.

Enjoy the best of Coral Gables in the coming days.

2022-2023 Productions

GableStage Introduces New Season

The popular Coral Gables based theatre company, GableStage -- at home in the Biltmore Hotel for over 24 years -- proudly announces its 2022-23 season. Five new productions, which illuminate the company's mission of "confronting today's issues and ideas" will account for 130 performances from October to July. The season begins with internationally renowned playwright Simon Stephens’ sharply original Heisenberg. Risking everything to stand up for social justice, We Will Not Be Silent is the true story of Sophie Scholl, a 17year-old German student who led a major act of civil disobedience against Hitler and his fascist regime. Lucas Hnath’s A Doll’s House, Part 2 is the bitingly funny sequel to Ibsen’s revolutionary masterpiece. As Hurricane Andrew threatens Miami, a mother and daughter ready themselves for the storm, but Abuela takes shelter in a world of memory, music, and magic -- El Huracán. A sparkling comedy of good intentions and bad manners rounds out the season. In Karen Zacarias’ Native Gardens, cultures and gardens clash, turning well-intentioned neighbors into feuding enemies. When his campaign encounters resistance, this inexperienced new ruler must prove he is fit to guide a country into war. Captured live from the Donmar Warehouse in London, this exciting modern production directed by Max Webster (Life of Pi) explores what it means to be English and the British relationship to Europe, asking: do we ever get the leaders we deserve? This production includes a 20-minute intermission. https://www.gablescinema.com/events/henry-v-ntl/

Lost Illusions

Lucien de Rubempré (Benjamin Voisin) is an ambitious and unknown aspiring poet in 19th century France. He leaves his provincial town, arriving in Paris on the arm of his admirer, Louise de Bargeton (Cécile de France). Outmatched in elite circles, Lucien's naive etiquette prompts Louise to retreat to her husband, leaving the young poet to forge a new path. Lucien makes a new friend in another young writer, Etienne Lousteau (Vincent Lacoste), who introduces him to the business of journalism where a salon of wordsmiths and wunderkinds make or break the reputations of actors and artists with insouciant impunity. Lucien agrees to write rave reviews for bribes, achieving material success at the expense of his conscience and soon discovers that the written word can be an instrument of both beauty and deceit. https://www.gablescinema.com/events/lost-illusions/
