Greetings {name},

Friday, August 26 is Women's Equality Day, celebrating the anniversary of the adoption of the 19th Amendment to the United States' Constitution on August 26, 1920.

Friday, August 26 is also National Dog Day, an opportunity to recognize and appreciate the value and importance of dogs in American families.

Tuesday, August 30 is Ganesh Chaturthi, beginning a 10-day Hindu festival marking the birth of the elephant-headed deity Ganesha, the god of prosperity and wisdom.

Monday, September 5, the first Monday in September, is Labor Day, capping a weekend of traditional gatherings and celebrations, honoring the positive achievements of the American labor movement for workers' rights and a symbolic end of the summer season.

Sunday, September 11 is Patriot Day, with a moment of silence at 8:46am commemorating the attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, killing nearly 3000 people. Patriot Day should not be confused with Patriot’s Day which commemorates the battles of Lexington and Concord in 1775.

The First Sunday of September following Labor Day (September 11) is also known as National Grandparents Day, signed into law by President Jimmy Carter in 1978, honoring all grandparents. More than four million greeting cards are sent within the United States each year on National Grandparents Day.

The Third Friday of September (September 16) is National POW/MIA Recognition Day, a time to remember the sacrifices and service of those who were prisoners of war (POW), as well as those who are missing in action (MIA), and their families.

As always, make plans to enjoy the great outdoors in our little city. Walk down Miracle Mile, experience the live theatre and the best movies, browse the book stores, look into the art galleries and meet up with friends at the restaurants. Visit the parks and public spaces to appreciate the bounties of nature.

Enjoy the best of Coral Gables in the coming days.

Three Minutes: A Lengthening

Starts Friday

Three Minutes: A Lengthening

So long as we are watching history, history is not over for Jewish inhabitants of Nasielsk, Poland before the Holocaust. Three Minutes: A Lengthening explores the human stories hidden within the celluloid. Director Bianca Steiger meticulously pores over every second of the footage -- sometimes in slow motion, sometimes still, forwards and even backwards -- to draw meaning from each frame. The end result is a profound meditation on memory, history, and the nature of film as a medium. Narrated by Academy Award nominee Helena Bonham Carter and co-produced by Academy Award winner Steve McQueen. https://www.gablescinema.com/events/three-minutes-a-lengthening/
