Up in Smoke
It's 420 Day. Celebrate the 45th Anniversary of Cheech and Chong's film debut, the granddaddy of all cannabis comedies. This zonked-out masterpiece brought the hilarious sketches that helped Cheech and Chong sell over 10 million records ("Dave's not here, man!") to the big screen in a big way. Directed by famed record producer Lou Adler, who discovered Cheech and Chong and went on to produce their blockbuster comedy albums, Up in Smoke's irresistibly goofy humor and madcap plot -- made of 100% pure hemp -- will lift your spirt (and pretty much the rest of you) as high as a kite. https://www.gablescinema.com/events/up-in-smoke/ |

Dead Poets Society
For generations, Welton Academy students have been groomed to live lives of conformity and tradition -- until new professor John Keating inspires them to think for themselves, live life to the fullest and "Carpe Diem." This unconventional approach awakens the spirits of the students, but draws the wrath of a disapproving faculty when an unexpected tragedy strikes the school. With unforgettable characters and beautiful cinematography. Celebrate National Poetry Month with one of the most enduring and uplifting films about the transformative power of the written word. Peter Weir's emotionally-wrenching 1989 film became an an instant hit, garnering Academy Award nominations for Best Picture, Directing, and a Best Actor nod for Robin Williams' breakthrough dramatic performance, but only Tom Schulman's unforgettable and loosely autobiographical screenplay took home the coveted statue that year. Seraphic Fire 20th Anniversary Concert
To honor the conclusion of their 20th Anniversary season, Seraphic Fire celebrates with a program containing both the oldest and newest pieces in our repertoire. William Billing’s Invocation was the first work performed by Seraphic Fire, and the first line of this American hymn -- “Majestic God, our Muse inspire, and fill us with Seraphic fire” -- is the source for the ensemble’s name. Seraphic Fire will be joined by University of Miami's Frost School of Music Ensemble Ibis for Shawn Crouch’s The Road From Hiroshima, the first piece of music commissioned and premiered by Seraphic Fire. Representing Seraphic Fire’s newest projects are three world premiere performances of works by Alvaro Bermudez, Sydney Guillaume, and Tawnie Olson. The ensemble’s first performance of Thomas Tallis’ massive 40-voice motet Spem in alium is the icing on the birthday cake of this celebration 20 years of glorious music at Church Of The Little Flower.
