Happy Thanksgiving

Thursday, November 16 is UNESCO International Tolerance Day is a day for fostering mutual understanding among cultures and peoples.

Thursday, November 23 -- the fourth Thursday of November is Thanksgiving Day, a federal holiday, a time for considering all our blessings, a day of parades and gatherings, and a long weekend of family gatherings and feasting.

Friday, November 24, the day after Thanksgiving, is known as Black Friday, a public holiday in more than 20 states, and traditionally the day when Christmas shopping retail sales begin with steep discounts.

The Last Saturday in November is Small Business Saturday, a time to consider supporting small neighborhood businesses when planning holiday shopping.

Monday, November 27 -- the last Monday in November is known as Cyber Monday, a newfound tradition that anticipates many Americans using online purchasing sites to pre-order holiday presents on sale.

As always, make plans to enjoy the great outdoors in our little city. Walk down Miracle Mile, experience the live theatre and the best movies, browse the book stores, look into the art galleries and meet up with friends at the restaurants -- including restaurant row in the 100 block of Giralda. Visit the parks and public spaces to appreciate the bounties of nature.

Enjoy the best of Coral Gables in the coming days.

“Nowhere” with Director Gregg Araki In Person

You are invited to a special screening of a new 4K restoration of director Gregg Araki’s groundbreaking 1997 comedy-drama “Nowhere,” followed by an in-person Q&A with Araki and actor James Duval. Nowhere is a stylized foray into the nightmare world of adolescent highs and lows. But more than that, it functions as a study of an entire generation and the direction they’re headed. The movie is more of a reflexive inquiry into the destiny of the seemingly apathetic youth who place more emphasis on style than substance. Get details online.
