Happy Mothers Day

Sunday, May 12, the second Sunday of May, is Mother's Day. Established essentially by two women, Julia Ward Howe and Anna Jarvis, it's a traditional time to honor mothers, grandmothers, mothers-in-law, and all motherly figures.

Wednesday, May 15 is Peace Officers Memorial Day and Police Week is an observance in the United States that pays tribute to the local, state, and federal peace officers who have died, or who have been disabled, in the line of duty.

Wednesday, May 15 is Chocolate Chip Day, celebrating Ruth Wakefield's delicious delicacy created at the Toll House Inn in Whitman, Massachusetts.

As always, make plans to enjoy the great outdoors in our little city. Walk down Miracle Mile, experience the live theatre and the best movies, browse the book stores, look into the art galleries and meet up with friends at the restaurants -- including restaurant row in the 100 block of Giralda. Visit the parks and public spaces to appreciate the bounties of nature.

Enjoy the best of Coral Gables in the coming days.
