The Summer Solstice marks the longest day of the year in terms of daylight.

Friday, June 21 is the day of the Summer Soltice, the moment the Sun is directly above the Tropic of Cancer in the Northern Hemisphere; and the longest day of sunlight. Sun rises at 6:32am and sets at 8:17pm.

Saturday, June 22 is World Rainforest Day to raise awareness and fight to protect rainforests.

Sunday, June 23 is the date in 1970 that President Richard Nixon signed the 26th amendment, lowering the voting age to 18.

Sunday, June 23 is United Nations’ Public Service Day, celebrating the value and virtue of service to the community.

Sunday, June 23 is also International Widows' Day, a time to consider the hardships that widows and their children often face.

As always, make plans to enjoy the great outdoors in our little city. Walk down Miracle Mile, experience the live theatre and the best movies, browse the book stores, look into the art galleries and meet up with friends at the restaurants -- including restaurant row in the 100 block of Giralda. Visit the parks and public spaces to appreciate the bounties of nature.

Enjoy the best of Coral Gables in the coming days.
