Monday, September 2 -- the first Monday in September -- is Labor Day, a national holiday that celebrates the American worker, the American labor movement and the great strides of progress made in securing fair wages and decent working conditions. It's also been the traditional end of summertime and beginning of the school year, and an opportunity for family gatherings and last-minute vacation adventures during the three day weekend.
Wednesday, September 4 is Eat an Extra Dessert Day, a day of culinary decadence that encourages people to treat their sweet tooth with a second helping of dessert. This is appropriately followed by two days of fasting. LOL
Friday, September 6 is Read A Book Day, a chance to appreciate the adventure and enlightenment offered by the broad universe of good books.
Sunday, September 8, the first Sunday in September after Labor Day, is National Grandparents Day, an opportunity to honor all grandparents through a range of activities such as gift-giving, card-giving, and for children to invite their grandparents to school for a day where they participate in special lessons or special assembly programs.
Wednesday, September 11 is Patriot Day, remembering the attack on the World Trade Center in New York City, when nearly 3,000 people died in the attacks. The economic, cultural and emotional impact was immense.
Thursday, September 12 is Chocolate Milkshake Day, an opportunity to indulge and appreciate one of life's great pleasures. |
