Friday, June 6 at 8pm Mainly Mozart - Postcards from Vienna Postcards from Vienna offers an intimate, emotionally resonant portrait of a city that has shaped the very soul of classical music. Performed by violinist Joshua Brown, a laureate of the 2024 Queen Elisabeth Competition, and pianist Marina Radiushina, acclaimed for her expressive artistry and depth, this program traces Vienna’s musical legacy through four distinct lenses—each a personal letter from a different moment in time. Mozart’s Violin Sonata in B-flat Major, K. 454, written for a celebrated female violinist, captures the balance and elegance of the Classical era. With Schubert’s Rondo in B minor, we enter the expressive heart of early Romanticism. Fritz Kreisler’s sentimental gems Liebesleid and Liebesfreud offer a nostalgic echo of Vienna’s golden age. Finally, Brahms’ Sonata in D minor, written in the twilight of the 19th century, brings storm and tenderness into sharp focus—a deeply personal work that carries Vienna’s past into an uncertain modernity. Together, these works form a mosaic of longing, beauty, and memory—echoes of a city where music was, and still is, a language of the soul. The performance takes place at UM's Knight Innovation Center, Newman Recital Hall. Get details online. |

Saturday, June 14 at 2pm Jimbo's Shrimp Shack - The Documentary The Miami Pioneers and Natives of Dade are pleased to present an enlightening and entertaining program about the history of a somewhat infamous South Florida location on Virginia Key — Jimbo's Shrimp Shack. Gone, but not forgotten, this iconic shrimp shack location -- hidden in plain sight at the end of the road on Virginia Key -- was ostensibly a simple place for fishermen to buy live shrimp bait, but it was so much more. To the regular customers, it was a place to buy smoked fish and cold beer, play bocce ball and relax aside a beautiful natural lagoon. To the movie, television and photography industries, it was an authentic outdoor set that mimicked an island fishing village. To the gregarious proprietor James "Jimbo" Luznar, it was a family business that attracted a cast of interesting characters, and a place to host friends and neighbors apart from the hustle-bustle of Greater Miami.
