Saturday, July 4th is the 250th anniversary of the publication of the Declaration Of Independence from Great Britain in 1776, celebrated with gatherings and picnics, often highlighted by fireworks and sky lighting demonstrations.
Sunday, July 5 is International Bikini Day. (really!) In 1946, the new bathing suits were named in reference to Bikini Island, where the United States tested atomic bombs. Remember Raquel Welch's famous bikini shot in the One Million Years B.C. movie?
Monday, July 6 is National Southern Fried Chicken Day, so set aside some time to enjoy crisp and tasty, finger-licking good southern fried chicken.
Tuesday, July 7 is National Dive Bar Day, honoring those unpretentious, neighborhood watering holes with dimly lit interiors, dated or quirky decor, and a worn-in, comfortable feel -- accentuated by the dive bar classic 7&7 cocktail.
Friday, July 10 is Piña Colada Day, so get the rum, cream of coconut and pineapple juice ready for the blender, to enjoy this sublime taste, texture and aroma of the tropics. |

In the year 2019, the police department forces Rick Deckard (Ford) out of retirement to hunt four genetically engineered humans who have come to earth. Designed to do difficult, hazardous work, the manufactured humans are stronger, faster and smarter than non engineered humans. They feel no pain or remorse; they are almost indistinguishable from other humans... and they are killing people. Now Deckard must stop them before they kill again. Directed by Ridley Scott, The Blade Runner revolutionized science fiction cinema, most notably establishing the foundational visual and thematic blueprint for neo-noir cinema and the cyberpunk genre. The original 1982 film is celebrated for its visionary world-building and philosophical depth, and is cemented on the American Film Institute's lists, ranking among the top ten science fiction films of all time. The film is an adaptation of Philip K. Dick's 1968 novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" Get details online. |
